My first car was a 1988 Chrysler Minivan, the super cool maroon ones. I was playing with my first band at the time and it meant the world to have wheels. Living out in the country was tough but no more, now we could go anywhere. Your first automobile is your first taste of freedom. At one point that minivan got wrapped around a telephone pole, should have been a write off, but it wasn’t. I loved that van, and Dad helped me fix it up. We put two vans together, gave it a snazzy new paint job, and we were flying again!
That feeling of freedom doesn’t last as you fall into the daily grind of commuting, but I wanted it back. A few years ago I bought a 1973 Ford Thunderbird as a project car. A massive 429 big block engine, the feeling of power under your feet, seating more comfortable than most peoples living rooms, and a chance to listen to all those old 8-tracks again. This is why people love driving, and why people love old cars. It’s a reminder of that first taste of freedom.
With that in mind, I decided to craft a songlist that celebrated the automobile, so I could combine my love of classic cars with my passion for music and performing live.
